Privacy policy

Your information, carefully kept.

You trust an accountant with some of the most private details of your life. Here is exactly what we collect, why, and how we look after it.

Last updated October 2026

01Who we are

Fortiora Financial is an accounting and financial advisory firm based in Toronto, Ontario. We are responsible for the personal information we hold about you, and we follow Canada’s federal privacy law, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Questions about this policy go to our privacy contact, listed at the end of this page.

02What we collect

When you use the form on our website, we collect what you choose to send us: your name, email, phone number, the kind of client you are, and your message.

When you become a client, we collect what we need to do the work. That can include your identity details, your Social Insurance Number or U.S. tax ID, income and investment records, banking details, and your business’s financial records.

Our website does not use tracking cookies or analytics. The fonts on our pages load from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your browser’s standard technical details, such as your IP address, when a page loads.

03Why we use it

  • To reply to your request and set up your free first conversation.
  • To prepare your returns, keep your books, and give you advice.
  • To meet our legal and professional duties, including record keeping and the rules that govern accountants in Ontario.

We don’t use your information for anything else without asking you first.

05Who we share it with

We never sell your information, and we never share it for marketing.

We share it only when we need to:

  • With the Canada Revenue Agency, the IRS, or provincial tax authorities, when we file or speak to them for you with your authorization.
  • With trusted service providers, such as secure accounting software and document storage, who must keep it confidential and use it only for our work.
  • When the law requires it, for example a valid court order.

06Across the border

Because we work on both Canadian and U.S. taxes, some of your information may be sent to U.S. tax authorities when you ask us to file there. Some of our service providers may also store information outside Canada. When that happens, it is protected by our agreements with them, and it may also be reachable under the laws of the country where it is stored.

07How we protect it

Only the people working on your file can see it. We store and send records in encrypted form, and we use a secure portal for documents instead of plain email. Please don’t send your Social Insurance Number through the website form.

08How long we keep it

We keep client records for as long as the law requires. The CRA generally requires records to be kept for six years from the end of the tax year they relate to, and some records longer.

If you contact us and don’t become a client, we delete your message and details within 12 months.

When records are no longer needed, we destroy them securely.

09Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that’s wrong. We’ll reply within 30 days.

If you’re not satisfied with how we handle your information, please tell us first. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

10Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top of the page.
